Promoting local traditional products in Natura 2000 sites

Brosura Bear Friendly

In the bear populated habitats and Natura 2000 sites on the project’s area are dominating the economical activities such us micro farms, characterized by the producing of some local agriculture or industrial products, manufactured by the members of the families. Food products like honey, smoked cheese, vine, brandy, smoked meat, dried fruits, are sold at local level or near main roads, in local markets or with the occasion of organized religious or traditional events.
In the same way are commercialized the industrial products manufactured manually at home: masks, traditional musical instruments, clay pots, statues, sculptures, wood pots, etc.
Most of the food products are considered ecological from the point of view of their composition, and the industrial once are manufactured without using synthetic colours or metal parts.
In the same time the food producers, especially those which produce honey, meet, cheese and others, are often affected by bear attacks on livestock or beehives. Promoting these local products with the help of “bear friendly” etiquettes which will attest the adoption of some peaceful coexistence methods with bears, can increase the interest of the buyers and the store owners. Thus the local producers will be determined to change their negative attitude toward this specie which helps them in an indirect way to sell the products. In the same way can be elevated the interest towards products coming from the 15 Natura 2000 sites of the project’s area. The certificate that proves that these products are coming from Natura 2000 sites, where the producer uses only habitat and species friendly manufacture methods, will increase indirectly the interest of the market, and will improve the image of the Natura 2000 sites too.
